Brut asked Jamel Debbouze 4 questions

This year, Marrakech du Rire celebrated its tenth anniversary. For the occasion, Brut interviewed Franco-Moroccan comedian Jamel Debbouze, creator of the Festival.

“This Morocco has always carried me, always helped me. When we thought we had to put on a big show, the place that seemed most natural to us was this one. First, because it’s sublime, and then because it was a comeback.

Five years after creating his own Comedy Club in France, the “Jamel Comedy Club”, the Franco-Moroccan Jamel Debbouze decided to launch “Le Marrakech du rire”, a festival bringing together comedians from all over the world every year.

This year, the Festival, which took place from June 15 to June 18, 2022, celebrates its tenth anniversary. And as always, Jamel retains “home” positive reserved for artists on Moroccan stages.

“I remember the welcome we are given here, I really remember the envy, the warmth of Moroccans, of course, but wherever we go, we are welcome, we are encouraged.”
