Brazilian bridge collapses into Curuca River: 3 dead, 15 missing

MANAUS — Up to 15 people are missing and three are confirmed dead after a bridge collapsed in Brazil’s northern state of Amazonas, firefighters and local media said.
The Amazonas Fire Department said it was looking for up to 15 people after a bridge collapsed on the BR-319 highway in the town of Careiro, about 100 km from the capital Manaus.
He added that 14 other people were injured in the collapse which occurred as some vehicles crossed the bridge.
Local media outlet G1 quoted several witnesses as saying the bridge had a crack that caused a traffic jam before the collapse.
The state government did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
