Bill Maher warns Virginia Dems: McAuliffe could lose election over schools because “parents vote”

| Local News | Yahoo news

“Real Time” host Bill Maher sounded the alarm on Friday night about next week’s Virginia gubernatorial election, which could return to Republicans for the first time since 2009.

Maher began the show’s roundtable by noting that Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe “should be okay” since President Biden won Virginia by 10 points and McAuliffe was previously Governor of the Commonwealth, 2014-2018.

Instead, Maher noted, the race is “neck and neck,” with GOP challenger Glenn Youngkin on an issue Maher reminded viewers he had previously warned about.

“I said months and months ago that the issue of the next election was going to be what was happening in the schools,” Maher said. “Parents vote and they don’t like what is going on in schools. They feel like they are losing control and that has become the problem with this election.”

“Believe me, it’s going to be a huge barometer-type election because if Terry McAuliffe loses, people will understand, ‘Yeah. Oh that’s right. It’ll be about that,'” Maher continued.

Bill Maher, left, claimed on Friday that he warned that school problems could be a major factor in upcoming elections, including the Virginia gubernatorial election next week between Democrat Terry McAuliffe, center, and the Republican Glenn Youngkin.

The HBO star then tore up McAuliffe for his infamous debate remark when the Democrat said, “I’m not going to let parents go into schools and actually take out books and make their own decisions. I don’t think they are. parents should tell schools what to teach. ”

Maher called McAuliffe’s comment a “line of applause” for teachers but not for parents.

“Just at the political level, fucking excuse me,” Maher said before restricting his language for his guest, US Senator Chris Coons, D-Del. “Very stupid, isn’t it?” Very stupid.

Maher later pointed out, “We have to start defining what ‘critical race theory’ means because it means something to everyone when they hear it.”

Atlantic staff writer Caitlan Flanagan responded by saying that the ideology of critical race theory can be taught, but “what you can’t do” is “set the politics of school based on the findings of critical race theory “.

“You can’t rewrite a program because of that and you really can’t treat kids to race them out and give them different messages. And that’s what you can’t do. product, ”Flanagan explained.

“You really can’t treat kids in a way that you take them out by race and give them different messages.”

“If this is what critical race theory means, if it means segregating 5 year olds by race and telling some that you are oppressors and others that you are downtrodden and abandoning a color blind society and that resegregation and racism are the essence of America – so I’m out there. I’m out on that, “Maher said.” But I’m on Toni Morrison, I’m on the point of admitting that racism still persists. ”

“He’s a rich man who sent all his kids to private schools and he’s never in his life that anyone has said to him ‘We’re going to tell your 8 year old something you don’t want. let her know and we’re going to keep her for seven hours to do that and you have no control over it, “Flanagan said.” So that’s a big deal and if he loses it then the Democrats will lose.
