Biden’s ‘grotesque’ exploitation of shooting at tearing Texas school

President Biden spent just a few seconds at the start of his remarks in response to the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, before detouring into a political exploitation of the tragedy, the independent reporter said Tuesday. Glenn Greenwald at Fox News.

Greenwald noted how Biden began with an appropriate emotional response to the tragic loss of life, but quickly pivoted to blaming the ‘gun lobby’ for the mass shooting allegedly committed by the now deceased suspect. Salvador Ramos.

“As a nation, we have to ask ourselves when are we going to stand up to the gun lobby – when in God’s name are we going to do what we know needs to be done? Biden fumed.

In ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight,’ Greenwald said Biden began to express how he could sadly be doubly empathetic with parents forced to bury a child – referencing the loss of his daughter Naomi and his first wife Neilia Hunter Biden in a car accident in Hockessin, Del. in 1972 – and decades later, losing his eldest son Joseph Biden III to cancer.

“He could really understand in a unique way how heinous it is,” Greenwald said.

“And he spent about six seconds doing that and then immediately took a detour to figure out how he could exploit and exploit that situation for partisan gain.”

The Substack writer called Biden’s comments “grotesque” but “unsurprising.”

Host Tucker Carlson agreed, adding that he would have openly praised Biden had he kept politics out of his speech.

The host further pointed out that other politicians seemed to be politicizing the moment, citing tweets from Rep. Ruben Gallego, a Democrat from Phoenix:

“F— you Ted Cruz – You care about a fetus but you’ll let our kids get slaughtered,” Gallego tweeted, later doubling down and calling the Texas Republican a “fuckin’ baby killer.”

Later, Greenwald said it was far too early in the postmortem investigation to determine the role of gun laws or other factors in the massacre.

“I think the obsession that people who are in full-time politics have with seeing the world through this prism of partisan warfare is so all-consuming that it basically drains their whole soul so there’s no more that this kind of immediate need to use every situation, no matter how tragic, to gain some sort of advantage,” he said.
