President Joe Biden said in an interview broadcast Sunday that former President Donald Trump’s alleged personal retention of classified documents after leaving office was “totally irresponsible.”

Biden said 60 minutes that he was not told about the sensitive documents that FBI agents recovered from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in August and that he did not ask anyone about important national security secrets had been revealed.

“I haven’t personally spoken to anyone about this – about this. I’m sure my administration is aware of all this, as is the National Security Council. But I didn’t,” Biden said.

Host Scott Pelley asked Biden about a published photo by the Justice Department included in a court filing last month showing secret and top-secret documents strewn across the floor of Mar-a-Lago.

“When you saw the picture of the top-secret documents spread out on the floor at Mar-a-Lago, what did you think to yourself? Looking at that picture,” the host asked.

“How could this happen. How could a – anyone be so irresponsible,” Biden said. “And I thought what data was there that could compromise sources and methods? By that I mean the names of the people who helped… And that’s just – totally irresponsible.

“I didn’t ask for the details of these documents because I don’t want to find myself in the middle of whether or not the Justice Department should act on certain actions it might take,” Biden added. .

The Justice Department is investigating Trump for deleting or destroying records, obstructing an investigation and violating the Espionage Act, according to the Search warrant for Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago.

Meanwhile, a list of items removed from the property shows the FBI recovered eleven sets of classified documents during the search, including top secret documents that should only have been available at special government facilities.

FBI agents recovered a set of documents labeled “Miscellaneous Classified/TS/SCI Documents”, meaning the documents included top secret or sensitive compartmented information.

The list also included four sets of top-secret documents, three sets of secret documents and three sets of confidential documents. The list offered no details on the substance of the documents.

A federal judge recently granted Trump’s motion for an independent special master to review documents seized at Mar-a-Lago.

Trump arguing that a third-party review is needed because the FBI raid, which took place just months before the 2022 midterm elections, “involved political calculations aimed at diminishing the Republican Party’s leading voice , President Trump.
