Biden says he wasn’t on vacation while visiting his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware: ‘I can’t go home’

President Biden said during his visit to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, on Sunday that he was not on vacation and had no place to stay at this time.
Biden approached reporters after leaving mass at St. Edmond’s Roman Catholic Church and, uninvited, revealed his weekend was not for vacation purposes, according to the Associated Press. The president, who has two residences in Delaware, lives in the White House but spends most of his weekends in the First State.
“I don’t have a home to go to,” Biden told reporters.
The president said the US Secret Service was working on his longtime primary residence in Wilmington, Delaware, to make it more secure “in a good way”. He hasn’t spent a single night in Wilmington in months.

“So I have nowhere to go when I come to Delaware except here right now,” he said, referring to his Rehoboth Beach home. “I’m only here for a day.”
Biden first spoke to reporters about security improvements at his home in Wilmington in April, after visiting the beach house after a trip to Ireland.
The president arrived on the Delaware coast Saturday evening after stopping in Florida earlier in the day to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Idalia. He was originally scheduled to spend Labor Day weekend at his home in Rehoboth Beach, but changed his plans after last week’s storm.

The first family enjoyed a week-long vacation in the Lake Tahoe, Nevada area two weeks ago. The Republican National Committee and Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill have regularly criticized Biden for his weekends away from the White House.
Reporters who met the president on Sunday asked him if he was implying he was homeless, the AP reported.
“No, I’m not homeless,” he replied. “I only have one house. I have a nice house. I’m here for the day because I can’t go home.”
