Barbara Walters once hilariously belittled Aubrey Plaza

Barbara Walters has touched many fans and celebrities throughout her long career as a television journalist and news anchor. One interesting interaction she had, however, was with white lotus star Aubrey Plaza.

Speaking to Chelsea Handler on her show in 2012, Plaza recounted a time when she was at the same table as Walters at an event and tried to talk to him.

“Barbara was at my table and all night I wanted to talk to her but I had no input,” Plaza said. “I finally felt like I had a reason to tell her something. I ordered the vegetarian plate. Everyone got the meat plate, and I just got a big pile of chickpeas in everyone was looking at my chickpeas because they wanted some and their meals didn’t look so good, so I used them as a power move.

She adds: “I started distributing my chickpeas. Ann Curry was at my table. I gave him 4 chickpeas. I was just giving everyone chickpeas and when it came to Barbara I knew she knew what was going on but she wasn’t really paying attention.

“So I said Barbara, do you want one of my chickpeas?” She looked at me and said “I’m sitting next to a billionaire telling me how he invests my money”. Have fun with your chickpeas.

Handler and Plaza laughed and Handler replied, “That looks like him. She is rather sarcastic. You wouldn’t expect it, but she is rather sarcastic and bitchy. She’s a whore, that’s what she is.

It was just announced on Friday that Walters died at the age of 93. His life and career are celebrated by friends and other celebrities.

Plaza’s last attempt at acting was season 2 of The White Lotus for HBO, which is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
