On Friday June 24, the Patrouille de France passed through the skies of the territory of Belfort, to celebrate the centenary of the smallest department in France. She flew over the work of monumental “Land Art” created by the artist Saype. An ephemeral creation over 5,000 m2 painted at the top of the Ballon d’Alsace.

On the ground, you can’t see much: some big dark spots and the beginning of a silhouette drawn on the grass at the Ballon d’Alsace (Territory of Belfort). Walkers are intrigued. It is of course on the side of the Ballon d’Alsace that the Belfortain artist saype made his latest creation. But to see the work, you have to take a little height, because the life-size canvas is 5,000 m2. Dozens of hours of painting were needed to reveal a huge ephemeral fresco, in homage to the centenary of the Territoire de Belfort.

“I wanted to represent a kid who plays with different symbols. We will find the train and the TGV for Alstom, the Adrian helmet (…), we find the lion of Belfort and a musical instrument which reminds us of a huge cultural scene at the musical level”asserts saypeartist and specialist in “Land Art”. To imagine this fresco, it took a year of work for the artist and his teams. The artwork will clear itself within the next fortnight.
