Ayr
4.10: Aberama Gold 5/1 (NB)
The wind surgery in February seems to have contributed to some improvement and this regular Class 2 rider might have found a great ride to find his way back to winning ways with the Gold Cup try.
The horse trained by Keith Dalgleish was just beaten by a head the last time on this course and this distance in a visor for the first time and which is preserved today.
An expert at 6f too and rarely strays off this trip so know what to expect – all signs point to a strong run and should be up there.
Another near-betting lead calls for a big-money forecast, with Jordan Electrics being the most consistent of the bunch and starting almost a stone lighter than runner Dalgelish.
Cartmel
12:30 p.m.: Dalkingstown 5/2 (NAP)
This is a hugely competitive obstacle handicap, with the field all having recent wins, but only one has shown their head ahead on multiple occasions and that comes from the in-form combination of the Bowens.
Jockey Sean Bowen has a massive 31% strike rate over 26 outings while trainer Peter Bowen has three winners out of just seven runners.
It’s a step down in class for the eight-year-old and he’s won the last two by a head, so he clearly likes to dig deep and find that little bit extra despite the increased weights.
2.05: Legend of Lermoos 9/4
Another Bowen combination makes the most appeal this afternoon in another competitive handicap, but this time on fences.
Finished more than six lengths right at this course and over this distance there are two starts and was only beaten by one length last time in a Class 2 pursuit against Texard.
Has also won five of its last seven races and handles tougher competition and likes it here too, making it the one to beat.
