At least 19 shot dead over weekend in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago


At least 19 people were shot, two fatally, over Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s weekend in Chicago (D).

ABC 7 / Chicago Sun-Times reports that the first shooting death of the weekend was that of Orlando Ware, 41, who was shot and killed while sitting in a car at around 1.20am on Saturday

A second vehicle pulled up next to the one Ware was sitting in and someone in the second vehicle opened fire, hitting Ware with numerous bullets. He was taken to hospital, where he died.

The second shooting death of the weekend occurred around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when a 16-year-old was attacked while walking on a sidewalk “in the 2200 block of South Keeler Avenue”.

The 16-year-old was shot in the chest. He was taken to hospital and died shortly thereafter.

THE Sun-Times The Homicide Database shows that 47 people were killed in Chicago from January 1, 2023 to February 5, 2023.
