The pettiness between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour continues unabated – and has now extended to spouses.
Nikki Guidish, who is engaged to Patrick Cantlay, shared some photos on Instagram from a Napa wine country getaway with Xander Schauffele and his wife, Maya.
“Good wine, best company,” Giudish wrote in the caption.
In a comment that has since been deleted but was retained by Golf.com, Ashley Perez, wife of golfer LIV Pat Perez, said it looked like a nap party.
“I’m sorry,” Ashley Perez wrote. “That doesn’t sound like fun…. At all.” She added a “zzz” emoji to hammer home her point.
It comes in a week where friction between the PGA Tour and Saudi-backed LIV Golf has reached fever pitch.
There is some awkwardness at the BMW PGA Championship, a DP World Tour (formerly called European Tour) event where both PGA and LIV golfers are on the card. A group including Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter had what was described as a “tense” meeting with DP World Tour CEO Keith Pelley.
Also involving the BMW Championship, PGA Tour player Billy Horshel asked a team of LIV Golf players, who hadn’t played many, if any, DP World Tour events before, “Why are you here?”
“Billy DP’s pro career 2013 to present,” replied Talor Gooch, one of the LIV Golf players named in Horshel’s tweet. “64 events. 58 major/WGC/2022 Scottish (pga tour). 6 pure DP events in total (I wonder how much he got $ to play) and his first appearance non-major/WGC P 2019 BMW (won FedEx in 2014). He supports what is best for his career. As we all.”
Meanwhile, Cam Smith, who recently defected to LIV Golf, recently had his membership – and parking spot – revoked from TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. It was a benefit of winning the Players Championship, but that obviously only applied to PGA Tour Players.
This drama doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon.
