Arsenal starlet Marcelo Flores idolizes Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar and could fulfill his dream after being named in the Gunners squad to face Crystal Palace

Arsenal youngster Marcelo Flores is set to be named in the Gunners’ squad to face Crystal Palace on Monday night – and he could achieve a goal he set himself two years ago.

The player’s father claimed his son would be in the matchday squad against Palace on social media, adding he was “so proud and excited about the first call”.

Flores could make his Arsenal debut at Selhurst Park

The former Ipswich striker, who signed for the North Londoners in 2019, has six goals and two assists in 11 appearances for the Under-18s, as well as three goals and one assist in Premier League 2.

And, before making it into Mikel Areta’s squad heading to Selhurst Park, Flores could achieve a goal he set for himself in 2020.

Flores said in an interview with Goal: “I would love to make my Premier League debut before I’m 19 – that’s my goal.

“And I would love to make my international debut for Mexico and hopefully play in the Qatar World Cup.”

The Canadian-born, the 18-year-old can play as a No.10 or away, and is clearly highly rated by youth coaches – and Arteta – at Emirates Stadium.

The Spanish boss has a reputation for trusting young first-team players, with Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Charlie Patino, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah all having opportunities in recent years.

Born in Canada, Flores has already made his debut in Mexico

The front four of Smith Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli, Saka and Flores would excite Gunners fans

And Flores looks to be next on that list and, if Arsenal manage to qualify for the Champions League this campaign, they could be ready to face their heroes in Europe next season.

“I idolize players like [Lionel] Messi, [Cristiano] Ronaldo and Neymar, who all did the same,” he added.

“Looking at players like them, you want to match what they’ve done because, like any player, my ultimate dream is to win things like the Champions League and the Ballon d’Or.”

Arsenal are struggling for numbers in the frontcourt, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang no longer at the club and the likes of Martinelli and Saka potentially unavailable for their trip to south London, Flores could get his chance to impress.

And, as well as scoring goals, Flores could soon be the next academy graduate to score them for the Gunners this season.
