Arsenal could be forced to rethink the situation of the contract of Alexandre Lacazette, because the brilliance of the striker at the head of the front line of the Gunners “makes the most of Martin Odegaard”.
The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move away from Emirates Stadium with his contract at the end of the season, but he has breathed new life into his career at Arsenal in recent weeks, playing crucial roles in the Southampton wins, West Jambon and Leeds.
Former Arsenal midfielder Perry Groves believes Lacazette’s menacing performances at the top allow the youngsters around him to thrive – and none more so than Martin Odegaard.
Lacazette is one of the main contenders for the post of captain of ousted skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but Arsenal’s board will have to offer him a new contract, with his current contract expiring in the summer of 2022.
And Groves, who spent six years at Arsenal starting in 1986, has no doubt that Lacazette’s ability to lead the line has kept Odegaard playing at his best in recent weeks.
“At first I was worried about Odegaard because you could tell he was an incredibly talented boy at first, but he didn’t dominate games,” Groves told talkSPORT.
“We used to watch [Mesut] He and Ozil were frustrated at times. We wanted him to go take the game by the neck and be dominant in that No.10 position.
“Odegaard is just starting to take on this role, he’s scoring goals and assists and with Lacazette, that gives him that physical presence and a base from which to play and he has the pace to. [Bukayo] Saka and [Gabriel] Martinelli on both sides with him.
Despite having won three rebounding matches in the Premier League, Groves fears the top four will be extremely hard to reach for Arsenal given the quality of rival Manchester United.
“They need help,” he added. “I’ve watched them in games and when there’s a period in games that doesn’t go your way, when you’re under the cosh, you have to be able to get through that period.
“It’s a ten, 15 minute period where you fall apart when you don’t concede.
“Watching Arsenal play when we go through this period in games, it looks like we’re going to admit
“I can’t see him doing a lot of business in January because he knows it’s his team now.
“Let’s be honest, if Ralf Rangnick is half the manager everyone says he’s at Manchester United, if he doesn’t put them in fourth with their quality, he should be far from there by the end of the season. season.”
