Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira, Fabio Carvalho to Liverpool and impressive free transfer from Aston Villa

The 2022/23 Premier League season is here and we’ve got you covered on talkSPORT.

There have been plenty of signings from big names like Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez to get the blood pumping.

Man City and Liverpool weren’t the only big spenders in the English top flight, however.

Chelsea have secured the services of Raheem Sterling and Newcastle have added defender Sven Botman to their ranks.

Meanwhile, one of the most exciting deals saw Gabriel Jesus swap Man City for Arsenal.

He was sensational in pre-season ahead of their opener against Crystal Palace – live on talkSPORT.

With transfer activity aplenty, it’s so easy to miss what could arguably be one of this summer’s shrewdest deals.

And here talkSPORT has picked out six of the Premier League’s under-the-radar transfers this summer.

Fabio Vieira (Arsenal)

The capture of Vieira looks like a real exciting addition for Arsenal fans as the club continue to add young stars to their side.

The 22-year-old, who won player of the tournament honors at last year’s European Under-21 Championship, will add even more creativity to coach Mikel Arteta’s midfield.

He has registered 14 assists for Porto in the 2021/22 Primera Liga campaign and could delight the North London faithful with his left foot.

However, Vieira is not limited to assists. He scored six league goals for Porto in 15 starts last campaign and scored 13 goals in 21 appearances for the Portugal Under-21s.

Fabio Carvalho (Liverpool)

Jurgen Klopp has added another young talent to the Liverpool squad, this time with the capture of Carvalho.

The 19-year-old, who followed in Harvey Elliott’s footsteps by swapping Craven Cottage for Anfield, looks to be an exciting addition for the Reds.

After initially missing out on the midfield in January, Klopp moved quickly to hit his target this summer.

Carvalho scored 11 goals in 38 appearances for Marco Silva’s side and impressed throughout, helping Fulham secure promotion to the Premier League.

Fans have already managed to get a glimpse of what he could offer in pre-season, with many even already drawing comparisons to ex-Liverpool star Phillipe Coutinho.

Boubacar Kamara (Aston Villa)

Kamara could well be a steal, having joined Steven Gerrard’s side on a free transfer.

The 22-year-old helped Marseille clinch Champions League football last season and could provide the steel and midfield trickery for Villa next season.

Versatile Frenchman Kamara can also play as a centre-back if needed and was a target for both Manchester United and Newcastle before agreeing a deal with Gerrard’s side.

He is likely to fight with Jacob Ramsey for a place alongside new Villa captain John McGinn.

Malcom Ebiowei (Crystal Palace)

It was a season to forget for Derby fans last campaign, but there was a lot of talk surrounding the bright spark Ebiowei.

Patrick Vieira’s side have edged out Manchester United at the young winger, who was made his first-team debut by former Rams boss Wayne Rooney.

Ebiowei, 18, has shown flashes of genius throughout Derby’s ill-fated campaign and it’s no wonder he’s generated a lot of interest.

The former Arsenal academy product, who has represented England and the Netherlands at youth level, has signed a five-year contract at Selhurst Park and is certainly one to watch.

Ebiowei is the second Derby player to move to Palace this year, following compatriot Luke Plange who joined in January.

Aaron Hickey (Brentford)

Hickey is surely a great addition for Brentford, with the Bees beating Arsenal to his signature.

After making 36 appearances, scoring five goals for Bologna in 2021/22, the 20-year-old helped them finish 13th in Serie A.

The Scotland international joined Italian club Hearts in September 2020 and has now been rewarded with a chance to impress in the Premier League.

“I’m very happy that we managed to sign Aaron. What he has already achieved in his career is very impressive,” Thomas Frank said after snapping up the star.

“Aaron is a rare thing in modern football in that he is equally good with both feet. He is technically very solid and is good when he has the ball in tight areas. He is an attacking full-back who has good creativity, he is an excellent center of the ball and scored goals in Serie A last year.

Flynn Downes (West Ham)

The Hammers have successfully swung Crystal Palace to sign the former Swansea City star.

Downes, a childhood West Ham fan, could be the ideal replacement for Mark Noble, who hung up his boots at the end of last season.

His combination of hard tackling, precise passing and calm footwork under pressure quickly made him a major figure in Russell Martin’s side in the Championship.

Given David Moyes’ track record of developing players in England’s second tier, there is hope the 23-year-old can follow in the footsteps of Aaron Cresswell, Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma.

It could certainly be a shrewd deal on the Hammers’ part.

Gavin Bazunu (Southampton)

The goalkeeper position has proven to be a problem for the Saints in recent campaigns.

Fraser Forster, who joined Tottenham, and Alex McCarthy played around half a season each, before Willy Caballero was drafted out due to injury.

Bazunu follows former City team-mate Romeo Lavia to the south coast and hopes to claim a regular spot in the Republic of Ireland national team.

The 20-year-old had previous campaigns at Portsmouth and Rochdale but is now tasked with taking a huge step forward in the Premier League.
