Arsenal icon Thierry Henry has been voted the Premier League’s greatest player of all time, beating Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo and top scorer Alan Shearer.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has been voted the best player in Premier League history by a poll of football fans.
Betfair’s survey has asked more than 1,000 football fans to give their opinion on the Premier League’s best player ahead of this weekend’s big kick-off – which will mark the Premier League’s 30th anniversary.
Thierry Henry has won the title of greatest Premier League player of all time according to a fan poll
Henry secured 15% of the vote ahead of five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo and Newcastle icon Alan Shearer.
The 1998 World Cup winner spent eight years at Arsenal between 1999 and 2007, then returned to the club in 2012 on loan from MLS side New York Red Bulls.
In total, the Frenchman scored 175 goals in 258 Premier League appearances and was a key figure in the club’s invincible season in 2003/04.
Second to Henry was Manchester United’s Ronaldo who spent six years at Old Trafford between 2003 and 2009 before making his own emotional return in 2021.
The Portuguese star was a popular choice for 45-54 year olds who voted for him more than any other player.
Despite a 13-year spell at Real Madrid and later Juventus on either side of his two spells at Old Trafford, Ronaldo still boasts a solid Premier League goalscoring record with 102 strikes in 226 appearances.

Alan Shearer was voted third and holds the Premier League’s all-time goalscoring record
Next on the list is the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer Alan Shearer, who edged out Eric Cantona in fourth, while former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard took fifth.
Shearer – Premier League champions with Blackburn in 1995 – was instrumental in the League’s growth in the 1990s and 2000s and his tally of 260 goals is still the record despite retiring in 2006.
The former Newcastle United striker still tops the scoring charts with second-placed Wayne Rooney 52 goals behind 208.

Former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has been voted the league’s fifth best player.
Aside from Ronaldo Mo Salah and Kevin De Bruyne were the only other active players to make the top 20
Current Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard won twice the number of votes Mohamed Salah had from red supporters, with the Egyptian coming seventh in the vote with 156 goals in 254 games for the FA Cup holders.
The Egypt international came seventh in the voting, having scored a remarkable 156 goals in 254 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, and counting.
Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne was the only other active player to feature in the top 20, with the Belgian star claiming eighth place despite inspiring City to four Premier League titles in the past five years.
However, few could argue with Salah and De Bruyne’s stance in the vote, given the legends they faced.
