An exciting week for Appalachia State football ended in the most incredible fashion when the Mountaineers defeated Troy on a Hail Mary as time expired.
Trailing 28-24, App State QB Chase Brice rolled to his left after escaping some pressure, launching himself down towards a group of players around the 5-yard line. The ball flipped through the air as the players converged. He was ripped out of the air by Christan Horn, who rolled to his right, got a block and sprinted into the end zone for a 53-yard touchdown with no time left on the clock.
Appalachian State fans took to the field to celebrate the savage 32-28 win.
It was the culmination of a hectic day and week (season, really) for Appalachia State football.
ESPN’s College GameDay was in Boone, North Carolina on Saturday for its weekly broadcast following the Mountaineers’ upset win over the then. 6 Texas A&M last week.
App State, now 2-1 on the season, started the year with a wild 63-61 loss to in-state rival North Carolina. Despite losing that game, the Mountaineers scored 40 points in the fourth quarter.
