Anthony Edwards says facing Kevin Durant in NBA playoffs is ‘one of the best feelings ever’

Anthony Edwards made a 3-pointer from the wing during a dominant third quarter for the Minnesota Timberwolves, nodding as he barked and glared at Kevin Durant during his retreat onto the court.

Durant could only smile.

The young star had an all-time best 10 points in five possessions as the Timberwolves closed the period on a 19-4 run for a 20-point lead en route to a 120-95 victory over the Phoenix Suns in the first game of their first-round playoff series on Saturday.

Edwards had 18 points in that egregious third quarter. He finished with 33 points – and a lasting memory. After completing a turnaround and another mid-range stepback, Edwards drained two 3-pointers during that stretch. He threw a bit of good-natured trash talk towards Durant in the process.

“He’s my favorite player of all time, so it was probably one of the best feelings of my whole life, for sure,” Edwards said.

Durant, 35, a 14-time All-Star with two championship rings, countless awards and what would seem to one day be a place in the Hall of Fame, was just as impactful for the Suns with 31 points on 11- for-17 shot.

“He made four or five buckets in a row like it was nothing. And I became a fan at some point,” Edwards said. “There was nothing we could do.”

The Suns felt the same way about Edwards, 22, who will play for Team USA this summer in the Paris Olympics and is becoming one of the faces of the league himself.

“He found his rhythm. He was able to hit a few,” Durant said. “He’s seen some tough games coming. Now he has confidence. He’s always had confidence as a player.”

Durant was hardly offended by this audacity.

“It’s just hoops. You’re hot, you’re making shots, you’re making tough shots, you’re going to feel excited about yourself, so it’s up to me to keep coming back and giving him a tough look ” Durant said. “He had some difficult moments. You just have to live with it and move on to the next game.”
