Anderson Cooper admits Florida Surgeon General’s claim about long-term vaccine effectiveness is ‘definitely true’

While criticizing Dr. Joseph Ladapo’s confirmation as Florida’s next surgeon general, CNN’s Anderson Cooper admitted that Ladapo was right about the long-term effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines.

During Wednesday’s confirmation hearing, Ladapo was repeatedly asked about the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines by State Senator Lauren Book. Book and his fellow state Democrats then left the hearing in response to Ladapo’s response.

“So what I would say is that the most commonly used vaccines in the United States, namely the Pfizer product and the product developed by Moderna, have been found to have relatively high efficacy for the prevention of hospitalizations and deaths. And over time, relatively low, low protection against infection,” Ladapo said.

The book appeared on “Anderson Cooper 360” to later discuss what she considered a “terrifying” response. Cooper, however, admitted his comment was “definitely true”.

“He was also claiming that his answer was a scientific answer to that question, but I mean, his endgame, you know, the way he worded the endgame – the answer that we just played there, he chose to focus on the more negative aspects, which is, you know, in his, I’m paraphrasing him, that long-term vaccines haven’t shown above over a period of time, an effectiveness, which is certainly true over a long enough period of time vaccines are not as effective,” Cooper said.

Despite this, Cooper continued to call out Ladapo for the “very odd way of phrasing” the vaccine’s lack of long-term effectiveness.

“But to put it that way is a very strange way to put it when in fact the most direct answer is that vaccines are very effective. times they’re not,” Cooper said.

“Absolutely Anderson, you’re 100% right,” Book replied before accusing Ladapo of being Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ spokesman.

“Again, to the point that this has become a political mouthpiece for the governor and an extremely dangerous measure for Floridians, 21 million Floridians deserve more than a mouthpiece for the governor and then talk about the soundbites that sound great and fit for a narrative. At the end of the day, we know that vaccines ultimately work, we know that wearing a mask works and prevents the spread of COVID-19. It’s not – it doesn’t are not very difficult to understand. And the best doctor in the state of Florida should be able to answer very simple yes or no questions regarding the health safety and well-being of Floridians across the country. ‘State,’ Book said.

In a comment to Fox News, Florida Department of Health press secretary Jeremy Redfin said, “The surgeon general would appreciate the opportunity to review vaccine effectiveness data with Senator Book , just as he has with other officials across the aisle, if she responded to one of our firm’s multiple meeting requests.”
