A central Florida park was forced to close Sunday morning after an “aggressive” alligator was spotted.
According to the Mount Dora Police Department Facebook page, Palm Island Park had to temporarily close for safety reasons.
A sign posted by authorities reportedly read “aggressive alligator 10ft more to move”.
Resident Rick Cooper was there that morning and wrote in the comments that he managed to capture video of the large reptile eating a high-protein breakfast.
“Unusual encounter on the boardwalk this morning,” Cooper captioned the post. “After a moment or two of taking photos and video – giving the alligator its space – I left it alone.”
Cops arrived soon after and shut down the park, the viewer said, adding he was surprised to see the alligator so high above the water.
“To get to this place, he had to walk quite a distance,” Cooper wrote.

The Mount Dora Buzz Facebook page reposted the video, which has already racked up nearly 100,000 views.
“A temperamental alligator wandered the scenic Palm Island Boardwalk at Mount Dora,” the caption read. “No worries, he’s already eaten!”
In the clip, the alligator is seen towards the edge, motionless, near the water, just under a bench on an observatory deck. He has a large bird — which Cooper labeled a cormorant-like anhinga — in his chompers.
“Do you see which way it’s heading? whispers a man off camera.
“Oh, he’s big,” said another man.

In Buzz’s comments section, many people duly expressed their concern, as the park promenade is a popular destination for walking, sightseeing and dog walking: “Oh my God! I went to this exact place!
Others joked that the animal just wanted to eat in peace in the shade.
Although the alligator did not appear “aggressive” in the footage, it was reportedly seen hissing and rushing towards people.
As of Monday morning, Palm Island had reopened, but visitors were to enter at their own risk because the alligator had not been found.
