All eyes are on Florida, DeSantis — from fighting COVID to stopping revival, the state is leading the way

It’s a fun time to be a new Floridian.

In January our family, very publiclymoved from New York to South Florida.

Even before our move, it seemed like Florida was more central to the national conversation than ever. Governor Ron DeSantis had taken a different course with the COVID restrictions and was under intense scrutiny from the liberal media. Every decision the governor makes, whether it’s insisting that parents have the final say on whether their child wears a mask in school or hiring a sane and capable Florida surgeon general, has received serious attention.

WAKED DISNEY VS. WALT’S DISNEY: IS THE CORPORATE POLITICAL MODEL SUSTAINABLE OR JUST MAGNIFYING?

But in the past few weeks, that attention has shifted to steroids.

It started with the Parental Rights in Education Bill, signed into law by the governor last week. In it, “classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties about sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur from kindergarten through 3rd grade or in a manner that does not is not age or developmentally appropriate.”

I have yet to meet anyone in Florida who finds this controversial. I’m in an old blue part of the state. Most of my local elected officials are still Democrats. And yet, all the parents I met supported this law. There is no outcry on any of the local Facebook groups.

It seems the uproar is completely nationally fabricated by the liberal media who continue to interview only parents opposed to the law.

After Governor DeSantis signed the parental rights bill, Disney, which had been pressured to denounce the law just days before it was signed, held an internal meeting, the contents of which were leaked to reporter Christopher Rufo. . The videos were extremely chilling, with Disney executives openly promising to indoctrinate children in gender theory.

I know of several Florida parents who let their annual passes expire or cancel trips to Disney and other parents who plan to monitor more closely what Disney produces before letting their children consume the content.

Most see this as a self-inflicted wound by Disney. They let far-left activists lead the way and this is the result.

There’s a lot of conversation around newcomers to the state and hoping they “vote the right way.” But, in fact, every newcomer I met made the trip because they liked DeSantis policies and wanted to be part of them. I started joking that I hope Floridians who have been here all along will “vote well” because they haven’t always done so in the past.

Floridians know their state will be a focal point for the next few years as at least two, possibly three Republican presidential candidates will be discussed. All eyes on Florida. They know that much of their state’s national news will be filtered through this lens. They are ready.
