On the background of fear of an epidemic resumption, the Algerian Prime Minister announced on December 25 new health measures and the expansion of the vaccination pass, in particular to enter and leave the country.
Algerian Prime Minister Aïmene Benabderrahmane did not hesitate to point the finger at the “laxity” of his fellow citizens in a December 25 press release announcing that the country “will inevitably experience an acceleration in the rate of spread” of Covid-19, reports TSA. The chief executive of the country, who considers that Algerians do not sufficiently respect “preventive measures” and “various health protocols”, also denounces the “low vaccination rate”, justifications for the establishment of a vaccination pass.
“The government is adopting a new approach, through the institution of a vaccination pass, already implemented for access to stadiums and party halls, as a condition of entry and exit from the national territory and to access certain spaces, places and buildings allocated for collective use or welcoming the public where ceremonies, celebrations and cultural, sporting or festive events take place, ”said the press release, reported by the APS agency.
Expanded vaccination pass
The first stage of the system will introduce this measure, among others, in sports infrastructures, swimming pools, cinemas, performance halls, museums, theaters, fairs and exhibitions or even hammams.
In addition, the vaccination of officials and people in certain trades will be accelerated. In Algeria, the vaccination rate of caregivers and teachers does not exceed 30% nationally, recalls TSA. The government also provides for “controls” and “administrative and penal” sanctions against those who do not comply with sanitary rules.
The Prime Minister presents these measures as a means of “avoiding the use of measures restricting mobility or suspension of economic, commercial and social activities or even home confinement”. On December 24, the country detected its first two cases of the Omicron variant.
