Alexis Sanchez, of Inter Milan, said he felt like a “caged lion” before scoring the game-winning goal in the Supercoppa Italiana final against Juventus.
The Chilean came off the bench to score a game-winning goal in the 120th minute on Wednesday, helping his side to their first trophy of the season.
However, the “super submarine” label isn’t something he wants to stick, saying his former boss Antonio Conte should have started it more often.
The former Inter boss, who is now at Tottenham, used Sanchez on the bench 18 times last season, which the 33-year-old was not particularly happy with.
He told Sport Mediaset: “I always said I felt like a lion in a cage, I didn’t play!
“Conte came up one day and said nobody else is like you, he would put me on for the last 15 minutes and said I would make a difference.
“I said to put myself earlier, I can tell the difference then too! It’s the lion’s roar!
And Sanchez suggested he wasn’t too happy with his current playing time, saying he believed he would play early in the final.
However, Simone Inzaghi’s decision to take him off the bench was clearly a good one and when brought in the winger simply said “he was keen to win something”.
He added: “Champions are like that, the more they play the better they feel. They can do something that no one else can.
“I played against Lazio, I thought I would play today because I was in good shape, but the coach made this decision.
“I was hungry and wanted to win something tonight! We are on the right track with the right players and we have to continue like this.
