Alejandro Garnacho wasn’t born when Manchester United first signed Cristiano Ronaldo, but now the pair combine for the Red Devils wonderkid’s debut goal

Manchester United wonderkid Alejandro Garnacho wasn’t born when Cristiano Ronaldo first signed for the club – but the pair have now combined for a Red Devils goal.

The 18-year-old scored his first senior goal for United after hanging onto a pass from Ronaldo in Thursday night’s Europa League clash with Real Sociedad.

What a moment it was for Garnacho

He took his aim brilliantly

Footballing icon Ronaldo, who is more than twice the age of Garnacho at 37, collected the ball in the final third and produced a defensive pass for the Spaniard.

There was still plenty to do and Garnacho took three perfect touches before an emphatic finish in the roof of the net.

It turned out to be the only goal of the game, but a 1-0 win was not enough for Man United to finish top of their group, meaning they could face Ajax, Barcelona or Juventus in the Europa League play-offs.

But it was a dream moment for the wonderkid, who grew up watching Ronaldo become the all-time top scorer.

The Portuguese sensation’s first stint at Old Trafford began in August 2003, while Garnacho was born in July 2004.

In fact, after an electric debut against FC Sheriff last week, United legend Paul Scholes compared Garnacho to a young Ronaldo.

Could Garnacho be the next big thing at United?

Garnacho copied Ronaldo’s new celebration

“This club loves artists,” Scholes said. “He was like a young Cristiano, taking the ball. I was impressed.

“Sometimes wingers, sometimes they can’t get down the left side, but he could do both, and that makes you so unpredictable.

“I think his performance was exciting for an 18-year-old, but he was the type to look to the future.”

Garnacho took to Twitter after that match to share an image of him and Ronaldo, with the caption: “I don’t know if this is real or just dreaming.”

But that fairy tale doesn’t matter much when compared to Garnacho’s first goal in a United shirt, created by his hero.

He even copied Ronaldo’s new celebration.
