Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have moved the telecommunications court to challenge the notices of demand from the Department of Telecommunications for the payment of cumulative fines of Rs 3,050 crore at interconnection points, a source said. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had recently issued demand notices to both telcos to pay a cumulative Rs 3,050 crore in fines over three weeks for violating the rules by denying Reliance Jio’s Points of Interconnection (PoI) in 2016 .

Industry sources said both Airtel and Vodafone Idea have moved Telecom’s Court of Appeal and Dispute Resolution (TDSAT) challenging the lawsuit notices and the DoT sanction and that the matter could go up for a hearing on Tuesday. Emails sent to Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea Ltd went unanswered.
