Actors Alexa and Carlos PenaVega announce daughter’s stillbirth: ‘She was absolutely beautiful’

Actor from “Spy Kids” Alexa PenaVega and her husband, “Big Time Rush” actor Carlos PenaVega, announced Monday that their daughter was born stillborn. Their daughter, whom they named Indy Rex PenaVega, was the couple’s fourth child.

“There are never the right words to say when it comes to loss,” the couple said in a joint statement on Instagram. “After a beautiful and peaceful birth, our daughter ‘Indy’ was born at rest. It has been a painful journey. But in the pain, we have found peace.”

Alexa PenaVega posted a pregnancy vlog from the hospital on March 18, saying she had been there for five days after she started bleeding.

“My story with this pregnancy has not been easy,” she said, saying that at one point she thought her water had broken and she couldn’t get the baby to move , even though she was usually active. The baby eventually started heading toward the hospital, she said.

“It looks like I basically had a separation of my placenta from my uterus, not completely, but partial,” she said. “Luckily it has gotten to a place where it can be maintained.”

According to the CDC, about 21,000 babies are born as stillbirths each year in the United States — about the same number of babies who die in the first year of life. The early stillbirth rate has remained about the same over time, the agency says, while the late and full-term stillbirth rate has “reduced significantly.”

PenaVegas has not released details about the birth. They said Indy “has already changed our lives in so many ways.” They announced their pregnancy in November.

“She was absolutely beautiful. And she looked just like Dad. Dark hair and everything,” the couple said. “Grief came to us in waves. Times where we felt completely drained… then times where we felt blessed by just spending a moment with her.”

“Indy Rex PenaVega, you have completely changed our world,” they finished their statement. “You moved us to a new place. You gave us the community we dreamed of. We love you, we can’t wait to see how many more lives you change.”

The former co-stars offered the couple their condolences for their loss.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with your entire family,” Big Time Rush commented on its Instagram post. “We love you and you are always in our hearts. Rest in peace, sweet angel.”

Tiffany Thornton, known for her roles in “Sonny with a Chance” and “So Random!” said she had “no words.”

“I am heartbroken by you and I can’t even imagine the loss of a little baby,” she said. “I pray she sends you daily signs from Heaven. I love you all from Arkansas and pray fervently for your sweet family.”
