93-year-old resident brings joy to the town of Simsbury

SIMSBURY, Conn. (WFSB) – A Simsbury man makes sure everyone feels part of the neighborhood.

If Simsbury were to name its streets after its most popular resident, it wouldn’t be called David Drive.

Alfred Daniels is a 93-year-old resident who makes sure to greet everyone who passes by.

The 93-year-old won’t let anyone in the neighborhood drive, walk or jog without a wave or a hello.

“I’m not a big shot, that’s for sure. Just an ordinary person,” Alfred said.

Other residents would disagree.

“I see him every morning and every afternoon and wave to him,” said neighbor Dominic Lapadula.

“It’s nice to have someone with unbridled joy who just sends positivity out into the world,” said fellow neighbor Daniel Dennis. “It’s our very own Mr. Rogers.”

Turns out it only takes a few months to get a good reputation on David Drive.

“I’ve been doing it for about three months now,” Alfred said.

Alfred has only lived in Simsbury since December and has only greeted the neighborhood since the weather has warmed up.

He lives with his granddaughter Jacqui, who is also experiencing some of this newfound popularity.

“I think thanks to him, I know all of our neighbors because everyone stops and says hello,” Jacqui said. “He’s the most outgoing 93-year-old man you’ve ever met.”

The people who have passed by have all been really nice, so it feels good,” Alfred said.
