5-year-old at Lee’s Summit praised for quick thinking when mother goes into labor

LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. – Jalessa, mother of five-year-old King Young, was taken completely by surprise when she gave birth unexpectedly on Tuesday.

King was the only other person inside their house at the time, but he knew exactly what to do.

Jalessa says the world wasn’t supposed to meet her newborn baby Prince until December 7, but he just couldn’t wait.

She says that in an instant most would freeze, King sprang into action and started comforting her.

“I go to the bathroom and I scream and he’s like, ‘Mom, when is the pain going to go away?’ and I’m like, ‘When your little brother comes,'” Jalessa said. “So he started rubbing my back and I let out some more screaming and he said, ‘I’m going to call the ambulance’ and I was like, ‘Yeah baby, call the ambulance. “”

King told dispatchers how to get there and made sure the door was unlocked for paramedics.

“I told them my mom needed help,” King said.

Jalessa’s husband Jared rushed home after work when he found out his wife was going to give birth.

However, he says things happened so fast that baby Prince, with the help of doctors, beat him there.

“I’m amazed man,” Jared said referring to King. “He surprises me every day.”

Jared said she was sure Prince would follow in his king’s footsteps in the future.

“Basically it was her and King at home delivering the baby until the paramedics arrived and did the rest,” Jared said. I am grateful. I have a new son, Prince will be as great as King one day.”
