3 killed, 44 injured in fire at Indian Oil Corporation’s Haldia refinery

Three people were killed and 44 others were injured in a fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon at the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Haldia refinery in West Bengal’s Purba Medinipur district, the report said. police.

The IOC, in a statement, said the incident occurred at a refinery unit during work related to the shutdown.

“The main cause appears to be a flash fire which caused burns to 44 people and unfortunately 3 people died of their injuries. The fire was extinguished immediately and the situation is under control,” he said.

Of the 44 injured, 37 are being transferred to a hospital in Calcutta, a senior police official from Purba Medinipur district said.
