It started with a Tweeter blasting an airport menu showing sky-high beer prices ranging from $13.05 to $27.85.

Then there was a story in The City. Today, nearly a year later, following an investigation by the Office of Inspector General, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has established new “street for its airport concessions.

“Based on a detailed review of dealership records, the OIG determined that a total of 25 customers were charged totally indefensible amounts of $23 or $27 (depending on size) for a beer,” said a press release announcing the results of the investigation. “The OIG further confirmed that, as a corrective action, the dealership contacted all 25 customers and refunded the entire check for their order.”

The Port Authority, which owns LaGuardia, JFK, Newark, Stewart and Teterboro airports, changed its airport concession pricing guidelines in July 2020 to allow suppliers to add a 10% surcharge called a “COVID recovery fee.” .
