It’s been 25 years since the murder of six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey took hold of the nation, and now in Boulder, Colorado, investigators say they’ve analyzed nearly 1,000 DNA samples to find the killer.

This is the latest in a series of numbers that reveal their continued efforts:

  • Police have received, reviewed or investigated more than 21,000 tips, letters and emails.

  • The detectives traveled to 19 states.

  • They interviewed over 1,000 people.

  • They processed over 1,500 pieces of evidence.

However, the case is still not resolved.

This grabbed public interest, possibly due to a mix of factors including her involvement in beauty pageants for young girls, the wealth of her family and the suspicion around her parents, who did never been charged and later exonerated by the authorities thanks to DNA tests.

On December 26, 1996, JonBenet was reported missing from the family home in Boulder. Her mother, Patsy, told police she found a ransom demand demanding US $ 118,000 for the girl’s return.

His body was found that day in a room in the basement of the house.

Police later revealed that his skull had been fractured.

Patsy Ramsey died of ovarian cancer in 2006.

In a statement marking the 25th anniversary of the murder, Boulder Police said they are “actively using new technology to enhance the investigation” and are regularly checking DNA matches in order to resolve the case.

“Thanks to tremendous advancements in DNA technology, several suspects have been passed through the system to verify matches. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has updated over 750 master samples with the latest DNA technology. Boulder Police are working closely with the CBI on future DNA advancements. “
