NASHVILLE (WSMV) – Metro police charged a 17-year-old in a single car crash that killed his father on Saturday morning.
Police said the teenager was charged with vehicle-related homicide by poisoning, assault and driving without a license. The accident happened at 6:45 a.m.
Police said the 17-year-old was driving a Toyota Camry entering the 1300 block of S. Dickerson Pike when the car pulled off the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Francisco Camaja-Taperia, the father of the 52-year-old, was sitting in the back seat without wearing a seat belt. He was fatally injured after hitting the windshield.
Police say the teenager smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted to drinking earlier. He and a front passenger were wearing their seat belts and were not seriously injured.
The teenager was taken into juvenile detention.
