Carter’s wife Sondi told police she was lying in bed with her two sons when she heard loud noises near the front of their home.

She called 911 and hid in a closet with her sons, according to the police report. Carter told dispatchers she could hear someone going through their stuff in different rooms.

When officers arrived, they found a masked man in all black clothing fleeing the house. The man drove to a waiting SUV and fled, according to the police report.

Police found two firearms and cash strewn on the ground outside the locked house. They believe one gun was stolen from the house and the other belonged to the suspect.

The police report says the money found in the yard was more than $16,000, but Vince Carter told investigators that was just part of the $100,000 missing from the house. .
